Pretty Little Girl

Behind the poem: Saoirse Fitzgerald was eighteen months old when she died on December 13, 2011 of Neuroblastoma, Stage 4 Cancer. I wrote this tribute for her after a message her father sent me about his daughter loving to dance. I couldn't stop thinking about her and wrote this for her this morning.

Pretty little girl who liked to dance—
whose life was cut short, and didn’t get a chance to grow up.
Who now has her wings, and to look down from above;
a beautiful spirit radiating with love.

Who will always be remembered for who she was—
a little girl named Saoirse, only eighteen months old.

The bravery she showed at such a young age, she still
fought valiantly every day. She left us an example
of who we can be, and showed us that we can overcome
 any pain that may come our way.

So, thank you for your courage—know that you are missed.
That you have touched the lives of many, in your short journey
here on earth.

  1. Ohhhh, that is very sad. This is a wonderful poem and a beautiful way to honor her life. Prayers and blessings for her family.
