Trials and Tribulations

Your trials and tribulations come marching back;
sometimes I wonder why they can’t turn to dust.

You are broken, but I am broken too—
when every time I keep thinking that I’m losing you.

I don’t often tell you “I love you” that much,
but as much as I love you, I most often never feel
your touch.

You weren’t there when I needed you—
don’t worry; you weren’t the only one.
Alone I was always, picking myself up off the ground.

I know you are sorry, for you have told me so
but forgiveness does not come easy, as this all started
so long ago.

Time might heal the wounds of what has been caused,
but not the hurt and the tears that have been captured
in a jar close to my heart.

Your absence has been felt, and I know you’ve felt it too.
I hope it makes you realize how much I’ve thought of you.

So fight for another chance; take care of yourself,
and then just maybe you can put your trials and tribulations
back up on the shelf.
