Ode to Joy

I wrote this piece back in 2008, as a challenge piece that one of my friends gave me--back when were Gilmore fanatics. There are three separate pieces that go along with 'Ode to Joy', that you can be on the look out for, which are:  Taking Chances, Middle of Me, and Great Expectations.

Some of the three are just oneshots--some chapter stories. Great Expectations is the only one out of all four that has more chapters in it combined, and is still a work in progress to this day. Ode to Joy only has one chapter.

"Wow standing out here is like giving yourself a death wish. Or turning yourself into an icicle." Lorelai offered, wrapping her coat around her tighter and sat down next to her daughter on the patio swing. "You okay?"

"Jess and I got into a fight." Rory confessed, looking at the icicles hanging from the frame of the roof. "Everything he said almost seemed like it was one big lie."

"It's three in the morning. " Lorelai shivered slightly, raising her eyebrow and cursing the coldness. "I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly. I'm going to need a little more details, inside of course. Hey I'll even throw in a comfy couch and a warm fire."

Rory smiled awkwardly, standing up. She had been driving for what seemed ages from the apartment that she shared with Jess, to Stars Hollow. The first place that she could think of was of course her mother's house. And in here it was considerably warmer. Nothing had really changed at her mother's since she had left a couple months ago. Rory sat down on the couch, beginning to shake—something she hadn't notice until now, but the longer she sat there the longer she noticed the numbness dripping off and hunger and tiredness settling in.

"So am I going to get a hint, or am I going to have drag out more about you and Jess Mariano just getting into a very big fight?" Lorelai asked with interest, kneeling down and starting a warm fire.

"He's been telling me that he's had to work late; had to cover for someone at work. Plus he's been working overtime on writing his new book."

"How's that going by the way?" The fire sparked full of life and Lorelai sat back down on the couch with a plunk before placing a blanket over her lap and tossing another one to Rory.

"He got an offer in New Jersey. Told them that he would have to think about it."

"Although I'm sensing that's not what you guys were fighting about." Lorelai shook her head, curling her legs underneath her body to keep warm.

"It's not." Rory looked away for a moment, "I was working on interviewing some people for an article and ended up seeing Jess kissing another woman at a café in town."

Lorelai raised her eyebrows, sitting up. "Seriously, does he know what level of betrayal he has just caused?"
