Project X: Closer

Alexx sighed as she closed the door to the house. It was times like these when she wished that she hadn’t chosen her career over getting married and having children. That could have been her: a mother, teaching her son how to ride a bike. Instead, she was putting all of her groceries away and cooking dinner for one.

And even though the quiet was nice--with hardly any cleanup—it made her miss getting together with her roommates and friends when living back in Oregon. But then she remembered why she had moved back here in the first place: to live closer to her parents; who both had numerous health scares, illnesses, and surgeries.

Her sister had always lived in the California area, and had taken most of the bulk of taking care of their parents.  However, now that her sister was pregnant with baby #3 and #4 and had been put on bed rest since about twenty weeks along, Alexx thought that also moving closer instead of just visiting would be a better option.

Washing off the dish and fork, she placed them in the drainer and urned off the kitchen light. Making sure that everything was locked up along the way, she avoided boxes that were still haphazardly stacked along the side of the wall and then turned off the light to the living room and hall.

Reaching into a box that held some of her clothes, she went into the bathroom and changed into a pair of grey sweats and a white tank top; brushed her teeth and tightened her ponytail before climbing into bed.

As soon as her head hit the pillow, it seemed like she had fallen into a deep sleep, only waking long after the sun had risen and birds were singing by her window. Yesterday had been long—having woken up at the crack of dawn just to make the twelve hour drive. Now, today would be another long day as Alexx prepared to put a few final touches, before working at California Pacific Medical Center.
